This is how Ghanaians seasoned their food before "The Infamous Maggi/Knorr/Whatever" stock cubes. Cloves, ginger and dried shrimp ground on a stone. <br />
"I recall we used to use a mixture of cloves, ginger and dried shrimps ground on a special stone for soup seasoning." From my Ghanaian aunt.

Soursop: The soursop is said to be good for treating cancer patients because it allegedly reduces the speed at which the cancer cells replicate. An infusion of the leaves makes tea which patients can drink. I don't know what it tastes like, but I can try and let you know. Apparently, because of its highly-valued medicinal benefits, it has become more expensive!

Prekese is used to treat an array of ailments such as arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. Rich in vitamins, it's used as a dietary supplement and for diabetic and cardiovascular treatment. It's also said to be good for reducing hypertension.<br />

The pod, the bark and the fruits of the tree that it comes from have its uses. The picture above was taken at the Azmera restaurant. The pod is being used as a natural fragrant. Apparently, the fruit is used to season certain dishes and when dried, is added to soaps because of its alleged antimicrobial qualities. It's a pretty amazing tree!

I could go on and on about the wonders of coconut, but I am assuming many of you already know about its amazing health properties.<br />

I had some sorrel juice with my lunch. It was slightly tart in flavour, but not in an over-bearing way. Another keeper. It makes for a great summer drink.

Today I tried some tiger and kola nuts for the first time. You couldn't find two more contrasting flavours.<br />
The tiger nut was surprisingly sweet. In the end, it was made into a dessert which tasted a little like custard or vanilla pudding.<br />

The kola nut was extremely bitter! It had a very earthy taste though, which became more pronounced after having some water. Kola nuts are a stimulant, so if you want to stay up, I was advised that this might be a good solution.
